As India's innovation ecosystem continues to expand at an unprecedented pace, platforms that nurture student entrepreneurs have become increasingly important in transforming ideas into impactful ventures. Reflecting this vision, Abhijit Bhand, Intellectual Property Consultant and Registered Indian Patent Agent, was invited to serve as a Jury Member for the Startup Pitching Session during the Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship (IDE) Bootcamp 2026 – Edition 3 (Phase 1) held at MVP Samaj's KBT College of Engineering, Nashik between 06th to 10th April 2026.

The five-day national bootcamp, organized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) through the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell (MIC) in collaboration with the Wadhwani Foundation and SBI Foundation, brought together over 250 students and young innovators from across the country. KBT College of Engineering was selected as one of the prestigious regional nodal centres for hosting this flagship initiative, which has already been successfully conducted in more than 100 editions nationwide.

India today is home to the world's third-largest startup ecosystem, with more than 1.6 lakh DPIIT-recognized startups operating across hundreds of districts and generating well over 17 lakh direct employment opportunities. This remarkable growth has been driven by increasing institutional support, academic innovation, incubation centres, and entrepreneurship-focused initiatives such as the IDE Bootcamp. By equipping young innovators with the right mentorship and exposure, such programmes play a significant role in strengthening India's ambition of becoming a global innovation powerhouse.

The bootcamp provided participants with intensive training in design thinking, customer discovery, Lean Business Model Canvas, business validation, and investor pitching. Throughout the programme, industry experts, startup mentors, incubation leaders, and entrepreneurship professionals guided participants in refining their ideas into scalable and investment-ready business ventures.

As a member of the jury panel, Abhijit Bhand evaluated startup pitches presented by student innovators from diverse technical backgrounds. The assessment focused not only on the novelty of the proposed solutions but also on the commercial viability of the business models, intellectual property potential, market differentiation, scalability, and long-term sustainability of the ventures. During interactions with the participants, he shared practical insights on protecting innovations through intellectual property, identifying patentable technologies, safeguarding brands, and incorporating IP strategy into startup planning from the earliest stages of product development.

The pitching sessions showcased a wide range of innovative solutions addressing challenges across healthcare, agriculture, education, sustainability, manufacturing, and digital technologies. The enthusiasm, creativity, and entrepreneurial mindset demonstrated by the participants reflected the growing culture of innovation being fostered within Indian higher educational institutions.

The successful execution of the IDE Bootcamp was made possible through the collaborative efforts of AICTE, the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell, the Wadhwani Foundation, SBI Foundation, and MVP Samaj's KBT College of Engineering. Special appreciation is extended to CEng. Shreekant Patil, renowned startup mentor and ecosystem enabler, whose leadership, vision, and extensive coordination were instrumental in the planning and successful implementation of the programme. His continued efforts to strengthen Nashik's innovation ecosystem and connect students with industry experts have created valuable opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs to transform innovative ideas into viable startups.

Speaking on the importance of such initiatives, Mr. Bhand observed that innovation alone is not sufficient to build successful enterprises. Equally important is the ability to protect intellectual assets, validate market opportunities, and develop sustainable business models. Programmes like the IDE Bootcamp provide young innovators with a holistic understanding of entrepreneurship by combining technical innovation with business strategy, mentorship, and intellectual property awareness.
