Innovation often begins long before a startup is incorporated or a product reaches the market—it starts with a student's willingness to solve a real-world problem. With this objective, M.V.P.'s Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Polytechnic (RSM Polytechnic), Nashik, organized the Eureka! Startup Pitch Competition, a flagship entrepreneurship event conducted under the E-Cell ecosystem inspired by IIT Bombay. The competition brought together aspiring student entrepreneurs to present innovative business ideas before an expert jury comprising professionals from the startup and innovation ecosystem.

Abhijit Bhand, Intellectual Property Consultant and Registered Indian Patent Agent, was invited to serve as a Distinguished Judge for the competition. His participation reflected the growing importance of intellectual property professionals in evaluating not only the technical novelty of startup ideas but also their commercial potential and long-term innovation strategy.
India's entrepreneurial ecosystem has witnessed remarkable transformation over the past decade. Today, the country is home to more than 1.6 lakh DPIIT-recognized startups, making it the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world. Government initiatives such as Startup India, academic incubation centres, innovation councils, and entrepreneurship cells have significantly expanded opportunities for students to pursue innovation as a career path. Competitions like Eureka! play a vital role in this journey by providing students with their first exposure to pitching ideas, receiving expert feedback, and understanding the fundamentals of building successful enterprises.
During the event, student teams presented innovative solutions addressing challenges across engineering, sustainability, digital technologies, manufacturing, healthcare, and community development. As a jury member, Mr. Bhand evaluated each proposal on multiple parameters, including originality, problem-solution fit, market opportunity, feasibility of execution, scalability, and the potential for intellectual property protection. The evaluation process extended beyond selecting winners and focused on helping participants refine their ideas into stronger, commercially viable ventures.

Throughout the interactions, Mr. Bhand encouraged participants to view intellectual property as a strategic business asset rather than merely a legal formality. He highlighted the importance of protecting novel technologies, developing distinctive brands, maintaining confidentiality during product development, and integrating intellectual property strategy into the early stages of entrepreneurship. Participants also received practical guidance on identifying patentable innovations, understanding technology commercialization, and preparing innovations for future investment and market entry.
One of the most encouraging aspects of the competition was the confidence and creativity demonstrated by diploma students, reaffirming that innovation is not confined to universities or established startups. With access to the right mentorship, exposure, and institutional support, young innovators at the polytechnic level are increasingly developing solutions capable of addressing real industrial and societal challenges.

The event was successfully organized by the RSM Titans Team of M.V.P.'s Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Polytechnic, whose efforts in promoting entrepreneurial culture among students deserve appreciation. By creating platforms that combine innovation, competition, mentorship, and industry interaction, the institution continues to inspire students to think beyond conventional career pathways and embrace entrepreneurship as a driver of economic and social progress.
Participation in initiatives such as the Eureka! Startup Pitch Competition reflects Mr. Abhijit Bhand's continued commitment to strengthening India's innovation ecosystem through mentorship, intellectual property awareness, and startup evaluation. By engaging with educational institutions across the country as a speaker, mentor, trainer, and jury member, he continues to support the next generation of innovators in transforming promising ideas into sustainable, innovation-driven enterprises.
